Our new web page, Let’s Get To Know One Another , is for past and present members of SAMDS, their friends in this country and abroad, patients, and anyone interesting in reading about SAMDS members. On this page you will learn of our colleagues’ medical training, their mentors, their interests and activities.
We would like to thank Dr. Marko Lekovic , son of the late Dr. Punisa Lekovic, for creating this website. Marko Lekovic has been an obstetrician-gynecologist in private practice for 6 years. He is the past president of SAMDS and the proud father of three sons and…“It’s a girl. It’s a girl.” Her name is Natalia. His office is at 6443 South Pulaski, Chicago, IL. 60629. Tel. 773 581 4266.
Some of our members, after long hours in the office, like to explore new concepts. One of them is Dr. Radomir Jovanovic. He holds a patent on a device called a “side actuated clip” that can hold large and small objects and is operated with one hand. It saves space and will find a place in the electronic industry.
Dr. R. Jovanovic has written a book that introduces new ways of thinking and experiencing reality. The title is to be announced on a later day.
Dr. Jovanovic graduated from Medical School in 1975 in Nis. He is a board-certified family Practitioner and works for Union Health Service, 1634 W. Polk St., Chicago, IL.60612. He is a member of SAMDs and in 2004 served on its board.
Another of our members is Dr. Sinisa Boskovic who likes to read about contributions that non-medical scientists have made to the medical profession. Thanks to Dr. Boskovic, we learned about Mihajlo Pupin’s Pulitzer prize-winning autobiography “From Immigrant to Inventor,” telling of his interest in the Roentgen discovery. Mihajlo Pupin was the first in America to obtain an x-ray photograph. He then contributed to the first surgery in America done under the guidance of x-ray pictures. ( Journal of Electricity , February 12, 1896.)
Dr. Boskovic a SAMDS member for many years, graduated from medical school in Zagreb and is board certified in Internal Medicine. His office is at 1575 N. Barrington Rd., Doctors Building One, Suite 330, Hoffman Estates, Il. 60294. His telephone number is 847-490-9393. He is affiliated with St. Alexsius, Alexian Brothers and Northwest Community Hospitals.
Zeljko Atlagic, DDS , is interested in working with composite materials. In fall of 2005 he participated in a workshop sponsored by Bisco, a company at the cutting-edge of new dental adhesive materials, held in Belgrade. While he was there, he gave a lecture titled “Predictability of Adhesive Dentistry.” During his stay in Belgrade he visited the Dental School and donated to the Children’s Department an instrument valued at $10,000, which determines the quality of composites. We know this donation is greatly appreciated.
Dr. Atlagic graduated from dental school in Belgrade in 1982. After coming to Chicago he completed a resident program at Northwestern Dental School. Dr. Atlagic is a past president of SAMDS and actively participates in its work.
There is more news coming from the Atlagic’s family.
Dana Atlagic, daughter of Drs. Zeljko and Mira Atlagic, student at UIC College of Dentistry was among 33 applicants who competed for the prestigious American Annual Research Hatton Unilever award. She won second place in the junior category for her paper “Unmarked Site-Specific Gene Deletion in S mutants.” Ms. Atlagic is currently a Senior Research Group President.
